Types of Instruments

Description :-

Music sways its way through the minds of people and before you understand music takes over your mind and sends you in a state of complete bliss. When you hear music, you feel the distinct presence of instruments which are the source of producing any kind of music, apart from the vocals.
From the animal skins to the drums made of bamboo, instruments have always been used to create music and to communicate with the world. There have been inventions of a lot more instruments in the history of music than there have been in the old age. However, the vast variety of instruments have been categorised into four groups, based on their sources.

1. Wind Instruments
Wind instruments, as the name suggests, use wind and the power of air to produce music. Flute being the classic example of wind instruments, is a long pipe though which wind is blown in order to produce sound. Reed instruments use a small flexible piece of wood to vibrate air into the pipe to produce sound. Concert flutes, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, organ pipe and bagpipes are all examples of wind instruments.

2. String Instruments
These instruments require the movement or the vibration of strings in order to produce sound. The first string instrument was the lyre used by the Greeks thousands of years ago. Using some scientific techniques, it was figured out that length and width of the string affects the sound it produces. So this was used to create many string instruments that you see today. Guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele and harp are some examples of string instruments.

3. Bowed Instruments
It is a section of the string instruments used in the orchestra. The idea of playing string instruments with the use of a bow emerged in Central Asia. These instruments are used by rubbing the strings with a bow to produce musical sounds. Violin, cello, double bass and viola all come under the category of string instruments.

4. Percussion Instruments
Percussion instruments produce sound by primarily striking them. The use of percussion instruments is one of the first instruments ever made from the time of early men who made drums from the animal skins. This includes drums, cymbals, tambourines, xylophones, bongo, wood blocks and many other instruments.

We all know that music has evolved like never before and so has the instruments through which it is produced. There are a wide variety of instruments in the present world that can be wisely used to produce good music.
