Singing - Styles of Singing

Description :-

Singing is a very important part of music. In Indian music, it is said to be comprised of three parts- vocals, instrument and dance. Centuries have passed and different types of music, scales, genres and modes have been created by human race. Singing has many types and has been divided into various genres. Some of the famous types of singing are listed below.

• Classical
This type of singing is considered the basics of any style of music. It is also a formal type of singing and is considered restrictive kind. The use of vibrato is very prominent in western classical singing. It uses the beauty of dynamics and emotional release. This type of singing makes a picture in front of the audience and weaves a story in a musical manner.

• Pop
Pop music is originally known as the popular music. This genre of music, as the name suggests, has the most number of hit tracks ever made. It does not work on extremes and gives you the peppy vibe without exaggerating it much. In this genre, romantic songs are no more sad and fun songs are no more like any comical background music. In this singing, you have to experiment with your vocals since there is no fixed boundary. It mostly has a set rhythmic pattern.

• Rock
It is what is somewhat related to the blues but has a fast tempo and use of prominent instruments. You will need to know different flairs and add an edge to your voice. There are time when you will be required to sing in a growling voice.

• Blues/Jazz
Blues is a very edgy kind of music where you will be required to play with the accent of you voice. Jazz on the other hand is a kind of singing where consonants and speeches are very clearly pronounced. Knowing the chromatic scales well and vocal sounds as scatting and pitch slides would be highly beneficial for this type of singing.

• Hip Hop
This type of singing is generally where the raps and beat boxing comes in. You should be able to experiment in your style and wordplay. Listen to the old school hip hop music and the funk type of music. You can then create your own style.

Despite all the different types of singing in different genres, one thing that you must not forget is practice. It is a universal truth that practice makes a man perfect and music is no exception. Practice your vocals and increase your range and try different styles of music to enhance your performance.
